Shows how plants are laid out

Tranquil Terraced Garden

Brand new landscaping to this garden included new sweeping borders to lawned area and terraced beds spanning the ceramic steps and patio areas, designed and installed by Custom Gardens. I was instructed to create the planting, which was to be the backdrop for wedding celebrations. Frothy perennials and grasses, together with flower heavy shrubs have created borders and beds which provide colour through many months of the year.

Lush new planting and new pond

Existing mature beds have been upgraded with a brand new pond and planting to give a beautiful outlook from the house.  The existing Acer and Larch trees were used for vertical structure, with new shrub, perennial and bulb planting to create a lush and dense look throughout this deep border.

Low-maintenance Gravel Garden

A new build front garden in need of a new look. Located in a full sun position, the area was ideal for drought tolerant planting and so a gravel garden was designed. Planting included Ballota pseudodictamnus, Dierama pulcherrimum, Erigeron ‘Sea Breeze’ and Verbena bonariensis. The garden copes very well with zero additional watering and the gravel and stones supress weeds and retain moisture. Twice yearly maintenance is all that is needed.

Front garden redesign

This front garden now has a much more distinct style using neutral hard landscaping materials and fresh, structural planting. Replacing a tired lawn which didn’t denote the front garden boundary in a clear way, this are now provides easier maintenance, seasonal structure and flowering Roses contrasting, to compliment the formal landscaping.

Architectural planting

What was an unused and unloved front garden, has been transformed into a striking cobbled garden, with architectural planting, using evergreen form and colour. Pulling up to the house, the client now has a beautiful setting, with minimal maintenance, that works well with the existing trees and hedging that were in situ.

‘We have a difficult garden to develop and Katie was great to work with. From our brief she created mood boards to help plan the garden, maximising colour through the seasons.  What was particularly good was that this gave us options, so that we could chose precisely what plants we wanted. From that Katie developed a detailed planting plan, helped source many of the plants and was available to give advice throughout. Gardening is never finished, so it is so good to have an approachable, knowledgeable expert to call on.’
